Frames

A frames page is a special kind of HTML page that divides the browser window into different areas called frames, each of which can display a different page.

A frames page itself contains no visible content, it is just a container that specifies which other pages to display and how to display them. When you click a hyperlink on a page displayed in one frame, the page pointed to by that hyperlink typically is displayed in another frame, called the target frame.

  • Create a frames page

    • On the File menu, click New, and then click the Frames tab.

    • Click a frames page template.

    • Set the initial page to display in each frame or create a new page in each frame.

  • Customize a frames page

    • Resize a frame by clicking and dragging any frame border.

    • Show frame borders and set frame spacing or hide frame borders. (On Frames menu, click Frames Page Properties, and then click Frames tab.)

  • Customize a frame

    • Click a frame, right click, and then select Frame Properties on the shortcut menu.

      • Name a frame

      • Resizable in browser or not

      • Show/Hide scrollbars

      • Specify the frame size

      • Set frame margins

      • Set initial page displayed in the frame

  • The target frame
    It is usually another frame in the same frames page where the page is displayed after clicking the hyperlink.

  • Save frame page
    After editing the contents of page displayed in frame, you need save it. (On Frame menu, click Save page.)

  • Save frames page
    After editing the frames page such as resize a frame, amend border size or changing the frame properties, you need save frames page. (On File menu, click Save.)
