Comparative Prosody Modelling across Language

About

Our GRF project "Comparative Prosody Modelling across Languages" seeks to promote computational modeling of fundamental frequency (F0) as a tool for (i) theory comparison and (ii) hypothesis testing and analysis for field linguists. And we hope to transfer this knowledge to field linguists analyzing the prosody of their target languages.

Workshop

Introduction to Intonation Modelling Using PENTAtrainer

This open workshop targets linguists (including field linguists) who are interested in intonation and analysis-by-synthesis. The Workshop starts with an overview of the Parallel Encoding and Target Approximation Model (Xu, 2005 [Speech Comm]), followed by a hands-on tutorial using speech data in Cantonese. By the end of this Workshop, participants will be able to use PENTAtrainer (i) for analysis-by-synthesis and (ii) to re-synthesise F0 contours for speech perception tasks.
